raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Kelly Nygaard moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to attend USC’s School of Cinematic Arts.

After graduation, she received the incredible opportunity to work as Terrence Malick’s assistant on the set of Knight of Cups, and spent the next few years shadowing directors in the commercial world until she decided to delve into directing herself.

Kelly has been directing commercials for the last two years, having completed over 10 spots for brands including FIAT, Redvines, The Donor Network, and New Amsterdam Vodka. She found her strength in the emotional storytelling of docu style films for Nintendo, stop the bleed, and Ad Council.

This work won her recognition by SHOOT Magazine as an emerging director in 2017.

As she moves into narrative projects, she’s passionate about concepts that bring women’s stories to the screen... because we can be badasses, too.
